The word encaustic comes from the Greek word "to burn in." Encaustic artwork is beeswax-based and because wax is an excellent preservative of materials, it was actually first used in 5th Century B.C. The surfaces of our artwork have a depth...one that resembles polished stone, cracked pottery, or ethereal space.
